How The Goose Came To Be

Mothers and daughters bond over all kinds of things that lead to the sweet, funny inside jokes that last for a lifetime. For Mom and I, it's always been that way but one of our favorites in particular has held fast for years and it all began with a goose...

We have always loved the movie Friendly Persuasion. A tender, funny story about family, faith and surprisingly, a goose beloved by one and despised by everyone else. We'd laugh at the goose imposed drama, swoon over the love story and quote lines about the goose for weeks. She waddled her way into our hearts and she became our secret tradition.

Probably much like you, these inside jokes and sweet sayings have become our way of measuring the world and over the years, they grew with us and evolved into more. It has appeared in our laughter, our celebrations and in our everyday life.

Every proper Southern woman comes armed with a phrase… or three, a 'bless your heart' if you will, one to lift another up and one to slightly point out foolishness. Ours is none other than, 'Gussy the goose!'

You need a new outfit or are setting the table? 'Time to gussy the goose.' Looking fabulous? 'You gussied the goose!' All done up? 'You're a gussied goose!' Hair in a bun? That's worth a gussied-goose nod and the list goes on.

What started as a shared giggle over a goose grew into a way of seeing life: playful, a little quirky, full of charm and everything done in love. So, when we decided to share our love of timeless, playful style, the perfect name waddled right up to us, The Gussied Goose!

Here, every piece is chosen with the same exuberance our sweet saying brought to our lives; whimsy, sass and a whole lot of heart.
